In 1985
Casio released the DW-5500, a.k.a. G-Shock II. Since it had a Mud resist
structure it was nicknamed "Mudman". I was always fascinated by this
model, but it was not released in large numbers and this model is pretty
rare. Around June 2006 I read rumors on Japanese fora that there was a
G-5500 to be released, which had the same shape as the classic DW
version. Finally end September it was released. Since I had it on
Pre-Order I got one within a few days after it's official release. The
red parts on the side of the case are not the actual buttons, but rubber
parts integrated in the bezel (like the Mud Resist Master of G models)
protecting the real buttons underneath them.
Due to this Mud Resist structure the case
of the G-5500 is bigger than the classic vintage DW-5X00 models (for X =
0 to 6). In my opinion the G-5500 still has the classic '80's design.
